Dental Services:Extractions

Carus Dental recognizes that there are times when a tooth might need to be pulled (extracted). A tooth may have to be extracted if repairing the tooth is not practical (when there is an extensive cavity or it is severely broken or cracked), if there is advanced gum disease, if the tooth is greatly malpositioned or does not have sufficient room, or in preparation for braces.

After examining your teeth, your general dentist may be able to offer you alternatives to having your tooth removed. Once a tooth has been removed, ask your dentist if there are any options for replacing it — replacing a missing tooth can prevent other teeth from shifting.

If a tooth does have to be removed, depending on the anticipated difficulty of the procedure, your dentist may offer to perform the extraction or else may refer more complicated teeth to be extracted by one of our team of Oral Surgeons. In addition, our Oral Surgeons also offer wisdom tooth removal and sedation options for any extraction.

Expert Advice

Be sure to follow your dentist's directions after any extraction. Adhering to their instructions may help prevent problems such as a dry socket, infection, excessive bleeding, or discomfort after having a tooth removed.

Did You Know?

Did you know how wisdom teeth got their name? They are generally thought to be "wisdom teeth" because they come in so much later in life than our other teeth, usually between the ages of 17 and 21 when a person has gained some "wisdom."

Did you know that sharks constantly are growing new teeth as they need them? Some species of sharks will have as many as 20,000 teeth in their lifetime. Talk about needing to have some teeth extracted!
